Research conducted by a University Hospital in Finland, has concluded that children who have a dog in the home are healthier than children without. Children with dogs as pets, had less respiratory problems and less infections. Overall, the study concluded, their general health was better than those children who did not have dogs as pets.
How is this so? The theory is that dogs who played outside, then came into the home, brought in germs that helped to build the children’s immunity from a young age. The exposure builds resistance and also helps to lessen allergies in young children. Also, overall, these children needed few antibiotics as infection rates were lower.
The results of this study may be of no surprise to dog lovers, but it’s just another reason to love our furry friends
